New Book Offers Septuagenarian’s Insight into Prophesies Found in Biblical Books of Daniel, Revelation

We posted about this new book a few weeks ago. Here's a bit more detail about all that's in store for readers:

After decades of intense study and the release of nearly 20 books, 77-year-old Joe E. Tarry tackles the enigmatic prophecies found in Daniel and Revelation. Tarry’s new book, The Last Week of Seven Yearsand the Apostle John’s Surprise, presents a fresh look and a reasonable interpretation of what some would consider the most difficult-to-understand chapters in the Bible.

In his book Tarry works passage by passage through chapters 7-12 in Daniel and the entire book of Revelation. He uses a down-to-earth rhetoric to help Christians understand these verses and therefore to be better prepared for Christ’s return.

When examining Daniel 7-12, Tarry explains what he believes to be God’s number system, which sheds light on the timeline of events in those chapters. He also includes a brief history lesson and discusses why understanding those events is important for Christians today.

In his look at Revelation, Tarry breaks the biblical book into three main sections: the “what you have seen” era, the “things which are” era, and the “things which shall take place” era. This unique view of the book allows readers to make sense of the symbolic and literal prophecies that span the timeline of human history. Within Tarry’s book also are discussions of controversial topics such as the rapture, the battle of Har-Magedon, and end-times theology (postmillennialism, amillennialism, dispensational premillennialism, and historical premillennialism).

In the book’s foreword, Dr. James T. Draper Jr., president emeritus of LifeWay Christian Resources, writes that readers will find “a remarkably detailed study of the Book of Revelation and the related Old Testament passages, particularly from the Book of Daniel. In these pages you will find your presuppositions and assumptions challenged.”

“Don’t expect this book to be a quick read. I recommend you read it carefully and prayerfully. I believe when you’re through, you’ll be much better prepared for the return of Christ, which is exactly what He has commanded us to do,” writes John Loudat, leader of the Information Services Team and editor of the Baptist New Mexican at the Baptist Convention of New Mexico.

Joe E. Tarry was born near Lovington, NM, in 1935. He graduated with a double major and received a bachelor of arts in religion and history from Eastern New Mexico University and a master of divinity from Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary. He and his wife, Leona, served for more than 35 years as missionaries to the cities of Governador Valadares and Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, in Brazil before retiring in Ruidoso, NM. Tarry has written 14 books in Portuguese and five in English.

Paperback ($19.95) copies of the book are available through Hannibal Books: 800-747-0738 and www.hannibalbooks.com. Copies may also be purchased directly from the author by emailing jltarry@windstream.net. ISBN: 978-1-61315-030-6.

Seasoned Author Reveals His Thoughts on Prophecy and Symbolism in the Books of Daniel and Revelation

Many writers have tackled the prophetic riddle in Daniel 9 and the symbolic language in Daniel and Revelation. Yet retired missionary and pastor Joe E. Tarry takes a unique approach in his new book, The Last Week of Seven Years and the Apostle John's Surprise. His placement within history of the "last week of years"--discussed in Daniel 9--and his division of Revelation into three parts reveal new insight into these passages. It's a must-read for every Christian.

Many Thanks Go Out to Veterans Today

As we celebrate Veterans Day and honor those who have served our country--as well as their families--let's also be sure to remember in particular the families of veterans who are no longer with us. Your sacrifices mean so much to us, and we are forever grateful.

One of our recently published book's, Left Alive to Die, is just one example of the ultimate sacrifice made by a man and his family to help protect and serve the US. for Mary Lou Hall and her children, Heather and Harley Stephen, their husband and dad, accomplished and decorated U.S. aviator Harley Hall, who unflinchingly signed on for last-gasp missions over Vietnam even in the war's waning seconds in 1973, disappeared after his shootdown--his whereabouts never pinpointed. For his loved ones and for all who still miss him urgently, the question lingers: where is Harley? how could he so utterly vanish? why did the U.S. not charge in and demand an accounting for this one who had such a brilliant future ahead as a military star? why was he left alive to die?

Susan Keen, whose physician husband once served alongside Harley as Hall commanded the celebrated Navy's Blue Angels flight-demonstration team, masterfully and heartwrenchingly profiles Harley, last American pilot shot down before the cease fire; chronicles jarring evidence indicating that Hall remained alive for years after his capture; and outlines our government's humiliating response to his wife's and others' pleas to garner attention for this compelling case.

No American can read Keen's shocking book without being moved to impassioned prayer for those such as Mary Lou who have no closure and whose lives forever are devastated by a war that many would like to believe never happened.

Susan Keen is a mother of two, teacher, reader, and world traveler. A native of Mississippi, she holds bachelor's and master's degrees from Mississippi College, Clinton, MS. She has written and published two cookbooks, was an interior designer, is a graduate of several French cooking schools, and is a gourmet cook. She and her husband, Jack Keen, M.D., live in Fort Worth and are active members of Travis Avenue Baptist Church.

New Book Recounts Dramatic POW/MIA Story

On September 16, 2011, the nation will honor the more than 83,000 Americans who are missing from World War II, the Korean War, the Cold War, the Vietnam War and the 1991 Gulf War, as well as the countless American men and women who were captured as prisoners of war.

A new book, Left Alive to Die, tells the story of one such American: legendary naval aviator CAPT Harley Hall. Flying a crucial mission hours before the 1973 Vietnam War cease-fire, CAPT Hall was shot down above the Cua Viet River. Hall’s wingman and other squadron members watched while he safely parachuted to the ground. They were unaware that was the last time they would see or hear from Hall again.

At age 32 Hall was the youngest person in the Navy at that time with the rank of commander. In 1969 he achieved his lifelong dream as he became commanding officer of the Blue Angels, the U.S. Navy Precision Demonstration squadron. Not only was he an outstanding military officer, Hall was also a dedicated husband and father, an inspirational leader, a loving friend and a man of faith.

Left Alive to Die is written by Susan Keen, the wife of Jack Keen, M.D., LCDR, the U.S. Navy flight surgeon responsible for providing care to CAPT Hall’s Blue Angels team and the families. The book is a dramatic retelling of the romance of Mary Lou Marino and Hall, their marriage and life together and the tragedy of Hall’s disappearance. Readers will be captivated by details of Hall’s Navy experience, Mary Lou’s courageous life as a military wife and her years of searching for answers about Hall’s whereabouts.

In many ways Hall is a symbol of numerous Americans who may have been left alive in Vietnam as their government, according to this book, turned its back on them and left them in captivity. Mary Lou’s frustration over the lack of help is evident as the author describes Mary Lou’s efforts to persuade the government to pay attention to what she believed was overwhelming evidence that many men and women were still POW’s long after the formal war ended.

The Little Brown-Haired Girl Series Expands with Two New Books

The Little Brown-Haired Girl and the Bad Bug BiteThe Little Brown-Haired Girl and the SandboxIn the second book of the Little Brown-Haired Girl series, the Little Brown-Haired Girl once again is playing outside in her neighborhood--only this time she "forgets" her shoes. When she enters the garage to look for a ball, she is greeted by a very unpleasant visitor! OUCH! Through this unfortunate encounter the Little Brown-Haired Girl realizes the importance of listening to and obeying her parents.

In the third book of the Little Brown-Haired Girl series, the Little Brown-Haired Girl invites her friend Nan over to play in her new sandbox. Everything is going great until the Little Brown-Haired Girl finds herself covered in sand. It's in her eyes, her mouth--everywhere! Even worse, her friend Nan is to blame for this mess . . . or is she?

These two join the first book, The Little Brown-Haired Girl and the Secret-Tree Club. They are illustrated by Nathaniel Platts and are written by Kay Moore, who feels fortunate to live in her "growing-up" neighborhood where she daily can walk by the site of the sandbox and bug-bite incidents and still can climb in her special tree.

New Book Exposes Jehovah's Witness' Beliefs, Explains How to Help Watchtower Victims

Though its members represent one of the fastest-growing religions in the world, the Jehovah's Witnesses remain one of the most enigmatic and puzzling groups to many people today. Few people never have been visited by a "Witness", but what exactly do these determined people actually believe? What makes them so different from other Christian denominations?

In this spellbinding look at the Watchtower Society, Joe B. Hewitt, formerly a third-generation Jehovah's Witness who was indoctrinated by his mother and grandfather with Watchtower teachings, pulls back the curtain of mystery and exposes lies, the mind control, and the glaring contradictions of biblical truth behind the organization that has sent those smiling faces to your front door. Rescuing Slaves of the Watchtower contains heartbreaking stories of former adherents, including himself, who were betrayed by the JW's.

Joe says instead of evangelizing others, the Witnesses themselves need to be rescued from the cult-like organization. The book describes how people who know the real truth of Christ's love can rescue the Watchtower's slaves from intellectual and emotional bondage.

Bob Dean, executive director of the Dallas Baptist Association, says, "Rescuing Slaves of the Watchtower is a compelling personal story and a well-researched documentary of what really goes on in the Watchtower Society. Joe Hewitt, a former Jehovah Witness, writes with insight in how to communicate freedom in Christ to prisoners of the Watchtower. You will find this book to be an inspiring story but also a great resource of historical facts and biblical truth concerning Jehovah Witnesses."

Formerly a third-generation Jehovah's Witness, Joe B. Hewitt has dedicated himself to exposing the Watchtower's false teachings and to help Jehovah's Witnesses ascend from mental bondage into Christian liberty.

Hermano Pablo's Vision Left Its Mark on Latin America

Driven with desire to put the gospel message on radio and TV in the Spanish-speaking world, Paul Finkenbinder (popularly known as Hermano Pablo) worked tirelessly to see his unprecedented dream fulfilled. With few resources except for an unfaltering faith in God, Hermano Pablo doggedly pursued the vision even when others, including his own family and co-workers, wondered whether the cost was worth it all.

Today, as Hermano Pablo and his wife, Linda, look back on nearly 70 years in ministry, they clearly see God's handiwork that made Hermano Pablo through his broadcasts one of the most influential Christian leaders in Latin America in the 20th century. Delve into the Life of an Unsung Texas Hero

Ernest T. "Bull" Adams was the first-ever Rhodes Scholar from Baylor University, but he spent most of his adult years on his knees sifting through the dirt as he unearthed clues about the earliest humans. He was a formidably brilliant lawyer and apt public official, yet he tenderheartedly devoted much of his professional career to representing the down-and-out.

Blessed with Herculean physical prowess that earned him his nickname, this gentle giant was most at home while he entranced youngsters from his hometown in Glen Rose, TX, with yarns about his rugged, enigmatic life. A highly contagious illness during young manhood relegated Bull to rambling throughout the Southwest, thus spending lonely years away from loved ones, yet none was more esteemed than this oft-unkempt, unconventional legend who left behind a vast legacy of knowledge through his passion for the ancients.

Dr. Jeffery J. Pruitt, whose family along with the rampaging "Bull" shared Central Texas roots near the Paluxy River, artfully unravels, in This Man Called Bull, the life of this complex creature, whose genius continues to influence others even today. Dr. Pruitt authentically describes this "Bullish" hero who never knew the word quit and who dared to be a different spirit.

One Man's Martyrdom Didn't End His Story or His Music

The 1930s were very difficult years for Christians in the lands of Russia. Thousands laid down their lives for their faith. Among these was Georgy (pron: Gay-or-ghee) Slesarev, first violinist of Moscow's prestigious Bolshoi Theater Orchestra.

They Could Not Stop the Music is the story of one believer who, rather than choosing to hide his faith and make life easy for himself, his wife and two children, chose to let his light shine in the midst of one of the darkest periods in history when being a witness meant, more often than not, martyrdom. But for this servant of Christ, hiding his faith was never an option because he saw his position in the world-renowned musical body as a direct assignment from God. He had been placed there to be His witness, which eventually led to Georgy's arrest and confinement in a Siberian Gulag.

The twist in Georgy's story, however, is sparked by the opportunity he was given to return to his position with the orchestra and to his family. The condition: He would have to sign a document promising never to share about Christ again. Even though Georgy refused to sign the document and was subsequently executed, they tried but they could not stop the music.

    Beauty Sells, but What's Beautiful?

From today's vantage point beauty is defined by personal tastes and popular opinions. But in God's eyes, what is true beauty? If the Bible could define what beauty is, what would the outcome be?

In The Purple Curtain, pastor Brian Chan examines beauty from a biblical perspective and how it affects our relationship with God. Chan contends that understanding true beauty can change broken people as they discover more of God's loveliness and--in turn--grow to love Him more. He explores cultural ideas about beauty from historical and contemporary philosophers, artists, writers, films, art and stories.

Readers will learn how they can recognize authentic beauty daily and will be challenged to make beauty out of brokenness as they grow in God's love and as witnesses of Christ.

Brian S. Chan was born in San Francisco as a Chinese American and is married to Ellen. He graduated from the University of California, Davis, with B.A.'s in psychology and sociology and from Dallas Theological Seminary with a Th.M. in historical theology and a M.A. in Christian Education. He completed his thesis study on the subject of the beauty of God. He has exhibited his artwork in the San Francisco Bay area, Chicago and Dallas. He is the founding and lead pastor of One Thing Church in Hollywood, CA, and a faculty member at Biola University. A passionate love for God drives him to pastor, write, create and live.

The Story of a Site Considered Small by People
     but Important to God

"Can anything good come out of Nazareth?" was the question Nathaniel asked when Philip told him about Jesus. For the uninitiated to God's agenda, the same might be said of those 16 acres, five miles east of Zachary, LA. But the ways of God are not discerned by people, and what might look like nothing more than ground and buildings is recorded in the annals of heaven as an address God has chosen to visit over the years--a "place of meeting" for thousands of hungry, thirsty souls. Read about this site in The Milldale Story--Its People, Its Mission, Its God by Ron Owens and Jodie Scoggins

Ron Owens--born in Canada, son of missionary parents to Europe--has multifaceted ministries. These include teaching, preaching, and music ministry in North America and beyond. He has authored other books and articles and has composed, recorded, and had published many songs in collaboration with his wife, Patricia.     For One Couple, Retirement Means Short-Term Mission Service

Helen Spaulding's nest was being stirred again. Helen, home from a meaningful potpourri of overseas missions assignments, realized she and her husband, Roger, weren't fully content when sidelined for long from being active workers in God's missionary service.

Though now past retirement age, the Spauldings yearned again to do something of value to God and His needy children and to experience afresh the extravagant joy of being short-term missionaries.

This second book in Helen's three-part Go If You Must series covers the Spauldings' efforts to rebuild a church campground and to work on a church farm in Costa Rica, a stint in the Navajo Nation in the U.S., a return to Costa Rica for an evangelism mission, a work mission in Northern Finland, and a one-year missionary assignment to Khabarovsk, Far East Russia. Language challenges and frequent exhaustion accompany the Spauldings' rewards as they bridge cultural gaps and explain the love of Jesus in a way others can understand. As with her first book, Helen writes in hopes of raising up more workers to labor in Christ's overseas vineyards and to praise God for the wonderful opportunities He gives when people are willing to pack up and follow Him.

Helen Stephenson Spaulding is a writer who believes in sharing the vast experiences God has given her as a nurse, Peace Corps volunteer, church worker, teacher, musician, and missions volunteer. She has served in Liberia, Somalia, Costa Rica, Finland, the Navajo Nation, Peru, Far East Russia, and several Central American countries--most of these assignments alongside her husband, Roger. Her other interests are raising and showing Saddlebred colts, taxidermy, and crafts.

    Are You Struggling?

Life is full of limitations--sickness, pain, disease. Most people never question the existence of these things in our lives. Why? They simply assume that these limitations are permanent parts of the human experience and that the only way to deal with them is to make the best of them.

The world tells us that we can't change things that it says are meant to be.

The world blinds us with its deception and deceit to keep us from the Truth.

The so-called "self-help approach" offers many futile solutions that leave us weary, exhausted, and utterly defeated. Clearly, a different approach--a second opinion--is needed in the matter.

In his book Get a Second Opinion, author and minister T.C. Morgan explores how God's Word can transform believers into the bold creations that they originally were designed to be. He encourages us to open our eyes, seek the Truth, and refuse to let this world remove all of our spiritual senses and recklessly operate in us.

If you're struggling with the troubles and trials of this world, heed the words of T.C. Morgan and get a second opinion from God's Word!

T.C. Morgan is the senior pastor and founder of Potter's Wheel Ministries. He has a heart to see God's people use the power of God's Word to help them change inside themselves. Therefore, he has devoted his life to lead by example. Through his life-changing messages, he reveals to believers the practical side of the Gospel that demonstrates how much God truly loves us. Through the many applicable vehicles he offers and through his hands-on style of ministry, Pastor Tommy desires to empower your life for success. He is also a musician, writer, artist, and a family man who loves his Lord.

Grace Transforms Ex-Con, Former Prostitute into
     Mission Service Corps Volunteer

Iris Urrey was raised in a middle-class Christian home, but she was rebellious almost from the start. Running away at the age of thirteen, she became involved with drugs and prostitution, and at seventeen was arrested for armed robbery. Once released from prison, she continued down a path of self-destruction. From numerous abortions to using heroin, to managing a topless bar, Iris turned from God's calling again and again.

But God, who in eternity past had devised a plan for this "incorrigible" rebel, didn't give up on Iris. He had work for her to do, and would one day turn this "incorrigible" rebel into one of His beautiful trophies of grace.

This is more than a tale of grace and redemption, however. God has used Iris's experiences to reach countless people, from top military personnel at NATO to German prostitutes. Along the way, well-meaning fellow believers have had trouble accepting some of the unconventional approaches of this Southern Baptist North American Mission Board's longest-serving Mission Service Corps volunteer.

"Don't you get angry with me and try to prove you're a tough guy," she tells the ex-prisoner on the other end of the phone line--who later received Jesus as his Savior and becomes her husband. "If you can tell me that you're retarded, you can memorize a scripture verse," she says on another occasion to the escaped sanatorium inmate who insists she is too mentally disabled to learn, but finds new confidence when she is saved. Learn about Iris's remarkable walk with God as she continues to minister to people all over the world. But be ready: This book may compel you to take action yourself.

Ron Owens--born in Canada, son of missionary parents to Europe--has multifaceted ministries. These include teaching, preaching, and music ministry in North America and beyond. He has authored other books and articles and has composed, recorded, and had published many songs in collaboration with his wife, Patricia. The Owens have one son, Jeff, a daughter-in-law, Jessica, and two grandson, Ethan and Evan.

Oh, how I love this woman--her story, her faith, are such a testimony of God's thorough work of redemption. You'll want to read and pass on Iris: Trophy of Grace, then have her come and personally share her story. --Kay Arthur, Precept Ministries International

Iris Blue's life is the most inspiring story that could be told. Ron Owens has captured the drama of this miracle in compelling style.--Jimmy Draper, President Emeritus, LifeWay Christian Resources

Prayer is Essential for Godly Parenting

The most important parenting skill to hone is prayer. Prayer has no boundaries. It is bound neither by time nor geography. The power of prayer can reach across the miles and can extend into the future.

In Legacy of Prayer, Author Jennifer Kennedy Dean offers principles for praying for our children, our grandchildren, and our descendants. In candid descriptions of her own life as the beneficiary of generations of prayer, she acknowledges that prayer for our children will not insure a smooth road but instead will insure that " . . . nothing will happen to our children that God cannot use as the raw material from which to create a vessel for His mercy." With characteristically clear and precise writing, she leads us into the Scripture to discover the power of prayer that reaches into the lives of generations not yet born.

Jennifer Kennedy Dean is executive director of The Praying Life Foundation and is a respected author and speaker. She is the author of numerous books, studies, and magazines articles specializing in prayer and spiritual formation. Her book, Heart's Cry, has been named National Day of Prayer's recommended resource. Her bestselling book, Living a Praying Life, has been called a flagship work on prayer. In 2005, Jennifer was widowed after 26 years of marriage to Wayne Dean, her partner in both life and ministry. They are the parents of three grown sons. Jennifer makes her home in Marion, KY.

What If Your Professor Says the Bible Isn't True?

The facts your college professor doesn't want you to know . . .

Record numbers of high school and college students are giving up on God and the Christian faith, unable to defend their faith against the onslaught of academic 'facts' from their instructors that 'prove' there is no evidence to support the historical accuracy of the Bible.

This explosive book--My Professor Says the Bible is a Myth--exposes the claims against the Bible as a gross distortion of the evidence. Dr. Tom Tribelhorn brings a lifetime of experience and intensive study in Israel to bring students and their parents face-to-face with the real facts. You'll be surprised to learn that some of the strongest advocates of the Bible's historical accuracy are not Christians -- but agnostic scholars who allow the archaeological evidence to speak for itself.

Tribelhorn contends that God never intended for faith to be 'blind' ... but to include logical reasoning and historical evidence as part of the equation. The compelling defense he presents here has the power to change your life -- and, if you already have doubts, to salvage your faith.

Tom Tribelhorn is academic dean and chairs the doctoral studies program at St. Petersburg Theological Seminary. He holds a Ph.D. (cum laude) in Judaic Studies from the Netzer David International Yeshiva, which included extensive primary research in Israel; a Doctor of Ministry in Judaeo-Christian studies from Jerusalem University College (Israel); an M.Ed. from William Patterson University; and a B.A. in Bible from Northeastern Bible College. He has led and co-led numerous tours to Israel, Egypt, and Jordan.

93-Year-Old Releases Poetry About Life, Love, & Faith

Even at 93 years of age Martha Bible Smith is not afraid to delve into "the life of the mind". She ponders life's mysteries, pours her heart out through verse, and with grace and depth faces the aging process. In this volume, So,--her second book of poetry to be published--Smith poignantly and profoundly explores themes of family, friends, memories, aging, and even current events. Divided into four sections (So, Sew, Sow, and Soak), each grouping reflects Smith's fervor for life, her love of family and friends, and her deep faith in God.

Pride in being a Southerner is readily apparent in this lady born in Tennessee and reared in Mississippi. A graduate of the University of Southern Mississippi and Southern Methodist University, for 31 years Martha was a teacher and counselor. For 11 years she was an entrepreneur of antique jewelry on the square in Historic Downtown Garland, TX. She is a mother of two sons, a grandmother of four, and a great-grandmother of two.      Achieving Life to the Fullest

God created us to live life to the fullest--to experience fulfillment, satisfaction, happiness, and meaningful relationships. Unfortunately doing this is not a reality for many people. Our past (sin, wounds, abuse, rejection, etc.) and our present (depression, addictions, codependent relationships, shame, guilt, etc.) hinder our ability to really live!

In John 10:10 Jesus says that He came to give us life--life to the fullest! He makes life a possibility for everyone, because He paid for all of our past and present problems. We have been given the power to choose life and to experience it every day . . . the life we were created to live! Ten Life Choices by Bob Perdue (CrossHouse Publishing) highlights 10 specific and practical choices that lead us to the life we were always meant to live.

Pastor Bob Perdue currently serves as senior pastor of Grace Life Community Church in Bristow, VA. Bob is chairman for the board of Regeneration Ministries in Baltimore/Northern Virginia, a member of the board of Grace Ministries, a member of the Association of Exchanged Life Ministries and is also the president of Life Now Ministries. Bob and his wife, Terri, have been married for more than 30 years and have five children.
