Author, Missionary Anne Fortenberry Speaks with SuperTalk Mississippi

In May 2004 Tim Culver received news that his 42-year old wife, Sara, had suffered an acute stroke. Thus began a remarkable pilgrimage of faith for both Tim and Sara: a spiritual and physical journey that carried them through agonizing days coping with both the illness itself and resulting disability as well as dealing with the dark crevices between modern medicine and current health-insurance practices. Tim will be speaking on Fox and Friends (http://www.foxnews.com/foxfriends/) on October 7 at 6:50am EST to discuss his new book, "Sara's Story" (October 2009, CrossHouse Publishing) and his experience with the healthcare industry in relation to healthcare reform. Their story offers hope for families struggling with severe medical emergencies. Life offers many choices, so we're pleased to report that a key player in our publishing companies has just been rewarded for making some eminently sound ones.

Katie Welch, who is the publisher of Hannibal Books' sister company, CrossHouse Publishing, has just received her Ph.D. degree from the University of Texas at Arlington. For Katie this effort represents 25 years of schooling without a break in stride!

After high-school graduation she graduated summa cum laude in 3 1/2 years from Baylor University with a bachelor of arts degree and as a member of Phi Beta Kappa. She did her master's work at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and Dallas Baptist University.

Her doctorate, awarded Aug. 15 at UTA, was in the field of linguistics. A Spanish scholar, her dissertation focused on the process by which students learn politeness terms as they acquire proficiency in a foreign language.

All this was occurring while Katie worked to give a high degree of individualized attention to countless authors at CrossHouse Publishing and coordinated numerous Hannibal special events such as the annual Mark Twain School for Authors.and exhibits at the Christian Booksellers Association convention.

With this part of her academic career behind her, Katie will continue as CrossHouse Publisher plus will absorb more of the day-to-day operations of Hannibal Books. She has a strong interest in developing Spanish curriculum as an offering through Hannibal/CrossHouse. We believe she will add a special way of relating to a new generation of younger, potential authors who desire to see themselves in print.
